OTIS AND THE BIKE RIDE
The Coast Leads To Canada

Time To Move On Sunday, July 8, 2007 - Day 17 I wasn't feeling too well this morning, still a bit sick from the cookie dough, I suppose. I ate way too much of that shit. I've got to keep moving on, though. Santa Cruz has been alright, and it was good to see Georgia, but I have taken two days off in the last 4 days, and I want to keep biking. I was going to try to make it to San Jose today, try to meet up with Gifford there, as he drives down the state on his way to L.A. I haven't seen him for quite a while. After talking to a few people, though, I found out that there is no real good route from Santa Cruz to San Jose. One way or another you have to climb some major hills and deal with some really bad roads. I don't want to deal with that to venture that far inland. So I'm gonna continue heading north along the coast, and hopefully Giff can meet up with me in San Francisco or around there. Right after leaving Georgia's place, I got a broken spoke. This is the second. I went to a bike shop and asked if I could use some space to do the work. They let me have some floor space toward the back. I decided I was going to try my hand at replacing a spoke. Never done that before, but I figured it couldn't be too bad. It wasn't. It took me a little while because I messed up the first time, didn't thread it through the other spokes correctly. Luckily I caught my own mistake before I got everything back together and the wheel back on the bike. Did it again and trued up my wheel. They let me use a truing stand and a spoke wrench, which was nice. No one there was particularly friendly, but they were accomodating in letting me use some space and a few tools. That's really all I needed. I didn't roll out of town until after 2:30. That's a really late start, even for me. Still, I knew I had to keep moving on. Half Moon Bay is not close, but not too far away. It was a dreary day. Some nice scenery. I started feeling better as the day went on. Made it to the campsite just before dark. There are four other bikers at the site. They are only on day trips from San Fran. I got two of their names - Rez and Rachel. The other two were very quiet. Rez is really interesting. Sounds like he has been all over the world. He is a squatter, the kind of guy that can hitchhike anywhere, find a way to get by wherever he goes. That's cool. ![]() sucks for you, if you need gas ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() this house is a travesty. i don't know why it bothers me so much, but it just shouldn't be there. a big, flat white house in that landscape just looks so bad. it's wrong. it doesn't fit. i want to tear it down ![]() Send Otis a comment Comments Love the updated postings Dad Hey Bud! |
