Welcome

Welcome to the official documentation of Otis's bicycle journey up the Pacific Coast. This will serve as a daily journal of my adventures, my progress, and my thoughts. While it probably won't be updated every single day, an entry will be recorded for every day of travel. It will include a recount of the day, pictures, and progress report to document milage covered, places seen, etc.

There is a section for comments, which are encouraged, but it is not set up like a standard blog. Comments will have to be emailed to me at otis@crestlinestudios.com. I will post them as soon as I can.

Just a warning: this journal won't be censored. It will detail all my adventures, struggles, experiences. Everything that happens that I feel like sharing will be included. I'll most likely use lots of profanity, including words such as shit, fuck, and the like. And I will talk about things like taking shits in the wilderness and such. Some people may be offended by some content. Sorry. That's life.

The Plan

So the plan is to span the entire United States Pacific coast, from the Mexican border all the way into Canada. I will be traveling Pacific Coast Highway the entire way, except to venture inland to certain cities. I'm beginning from Los Angeles, heading south on Friday, June 22, touching the Mexican border then beginning north. The duration of the trip is yet unknown. I'm guessing a month and a half to two months total. It will probably take over a month to get to Vancouver. Then from there? Along the way I will be staying with friends, friends of friends, random people from couchsurfing.com, as well camping in a hammock.

I'm bringing with me the necessary accessories for biking, such as padded shorts, breathable shirts, socks, cycling shoes, a helmet, gloves, etc. I am also bringing a few articles of clothing in addition to the cycling gear, some camping gear, such as a stove, hammock, sleeping bag, a pot and pan. Also coming with me is my new computer, a digital camera, and an iPod for listening enjoyment. I'll also be bringing some books and notebooks for writing.

So now my bike is freshly painted, my saddle bags are on, and I'm ready to go. I think. Here goes anyway.
